The other day, I was in The Bombay Store, to pick up a few artifacts for my house. There was a ‘firangee’ couple discussing a Ganesh idol amongst the other forms of Ganesh displayed on the shelves. The idol was different because it was doctor Ganesh checking the pulse of his mouse. The girl was going all gaga over ‘Dr’ Ganesh and the guy was like..”oh it is just $30. I will buy it for you as a gift. Come on, take it” and (in my mind) I was like “JUST??? $30” that’s around 30x70= Rs2100! That’s a little over the monthly milk bill! I am usually not affected by the exchange rates, not unless I see a change in the weekly groceries that I buy. When the price of tomatoes rises from Rs. 15 to Rs. 20 per 250g, that is when I realize, there is some effect on the economy, on ‘MY economy’! Anyways, back at The Bombay Store- the couple bought the Dr Ganesh and moved on to another shelf. There was a hand carved tea lamp stand. Rs 550 was the price (I had already checked it before).
